Perspectives on Regional Growth and Planning - A France/Canada Forum
The Consulate General of France in Toronto and the University of Toronto Department of Geography and Planning, with the support of Institut français, are organizing the "Perspectives on Regional Growth and Planning: A France - Canadian Forum". The event is dedicated to regional growth issues and challenges and their solutions, and will be held from November 17 to 19, 2014 at the University of Toronto.
Over the course of three days, six prominent French urban planning researchers, scholars, and practising professionals will immerse themselves in Toronto and the surrounding region, sharing their experiences and discussing regional growth and transportation issues with their Canadian counterparts. The goal of this forum is for distinguished French and Canadian citybuilders to meet, obtain a better understanding of their respective issues and problems, and share their experiences and best practices in order to bring about potential long-term collaborative initiatives. The three-day symposium will include field visits, meetings with Canadian urban planning professionals, and public discussions opened to planning students, professionals, and the general public.
On closing day (Nov. 19), Catherine Barbé, Director of Strategic Partnerships and former Director of Development and Planning at the Société du Grand Paris, will share her insights on the issues facing both the Paris and Toronto regions and her experiences tackling those challenges in the public sector and a research think-tank.
