M. Philippe Sutter, Consul General of France in Vancouver, met with Dr. Edouard Bard from the Collège de France and Dr. Philippe Tortell, director of the Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Studies (PWIAS), UBC.

Dr. Bard is in Vancouver for a series of conferences on Climate and Ocean.

Édouard Bard is a French climatologist, professor of the chair "Évolution du climat et de l'océan " at the Collège de France and a member of the Académie des sciences.

Since 2004, Édouard Bard has organized numerous colloquiums and symposiums on climate and ocean evolution at the Collège de France, some of which are widely open to the general public and policians such as "L’Homme face au climat" in 2004, "Clôture de la quatrième année polaire internationale" in 2009 in partnership with the Senate, "Arctique : les grands enjeux scientifiques " in 2012 in partnership with the Chantier Arctique, "Climat, énergie et société : le Collège de France et la COP21" in 2015 with the participation of the President of the Republic, François Hollande.

In 2007, he was Vice-Chairman of the Grenelle Group on the Environment on Climate Change and Energy Management, and was part of the French delegations in Ilulissat, Greenland and Bali, Indonesia, for the Conference on Climate Change (COP13). In 2009, he was a member of the commission du Grand Emprunt national (Programme des investissements d’avenir), chaired by Alain Juppé and Michel Rocard. From 2010 to 2013, he is a member of the scientific council of OPECST.
