Presentation of Terradynamica at Digifest

June 12, 2014 | By francecanadaculture Film

This year at Digifest Stephane Natkin and Cécile le Prado have presented the Terradynamica project : a 3D Dynamic Urban Immersive Simulation of Paris. And French artist Cécile le Prado has presented her interactive installation: The “Listening Walker”, which was produced as part of Terradynamica. Watch the interview in the above video.

Terradynamica addresses the dynamic 3D representation of urban actors (crowd and traffic) within detailed environment and the smart technologies able to provide them with intelligent behaviour, it provides a Real-Time simulation (representation & animation) of the urban actors (pedestrians, crowds, vehicles, traffics) immerged in their own environment, at a district or at a main equipment (railway station, conference centre, stadium, …) scale.

The project belongs to a line of R&T projects (TerraNumerica, TerraMagna, TerraDynamica, TerraMobilita) which are focused on the development of urban modelling & simulation technologies. This is an R&T collaborative project supported by two French competitiveness clusters (CapDigital & AdvanCity). It is a 3 years project (2010-2013) with a total budget of  9 million euros and a financing of 4 million euros from the sponsors (Government, Regions, City of Paris).

Stéphane Natkin is a professor at the department of Computer Science of the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers in Paris France, Director of the Graduate School on Games and Interactive Media and at the head of the Mobility Interaction and Media group of Computer Research Laboratory CEDRIC. He is a member of the administrative board of the CNAM and is also a member of the boards of the Paris Digital Contents Cluster, Cap Digital. He is the French representative of the IFIP group in Entertainment Computing.

Cécile Le Prado is the author of many musical pieces and sound installations. As a researcher in music composition, she worked with the National Audiovisual Institute Musical Research Group and the Institute for Acoustic Creation and Music Research. She is now a member of the computer science laboratory of the National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts CEDRIC. She leads the ILJ group (interface to read and play), a research team working on interactive sound design. As an Associated Professor at the National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts, Cécile Le Prado is in charge of the “Sound Design” specialty within the Graduate School of Games and Interactive Media. She holds a degree in Electro Acoustic Composition from the Conservatoire de Nantes, a Masters in Game and Interactive Sound from CNAM and a PhD in Computer Science from CNAM.
