Satoko Fujii & KAZEMelodic beauty, provocative abstraction, and confrontational fi‑re: KAZE is free jazz at its most creative and powerful. The Japanese/French quartet shares boundless energy and enthusiasm, an insatiable appetite for sonic experimentation, and the disciplined intelligence of accomplished spontaneous
composers. With three acclaimed albums under their belt, KAZE is in full ight. This is “bold, uncompromising music” (London Jazz News) featuring pianist Satoko Fujii, the trumpet tandem of France’s Christian Pruvost and Japan’s Natsuki Tamura, and French drummer Peter Orins. Partnership with Institut français & SPEDIDAM

Sylvain Darrifourcq - In Love WithSylvain Darrifourcq (Émile Parisien) leads this vital and startlingly creative trio through abstracted, brain-meltingly virtuosic compositions that come off like mashups of Webern, Satie, Mr. Bungle, and beautifully textured chamber jazz. Alternating between plucking and bowing, cellist Valentin Ceccaldi (Joëlle Léandre), lays down grooves rivalling the heaviest of bassists while his violinist brother Théo Ceccaldi (Marc Ducret) shreds like a reincarnated Hendrix and pizzicatos like a possessed man sending urgent telegraphs that will change the course of history. Partnership with SPEDIDAM & ADAMI

Concert at 5:00 PM on July 1 at the Performance Centre
Free workshop with Sylvain Darrifourcq at the Roundhouse Studio at 1:30 PM
