Children: preparing for French immersion programs

Objective: to prepare preschool-aged children (3–4 years old) for primary-level French immersion classes.

Focus: familiarity with the French language through games, songs, picture books, and fun activities.

Organization:

  • After kindergarten in periods of a maximum of 90 minutes;
  • Time and location to be determined on the basis of need (transportation costs for teachers may apply);
  • Rate: $20.40 CAD per hour per student (minimum three children of equivalent level per group).

Parents: helping children with their homework

Objective: to give parents the resources to extend their children’s French immersion experience into the home.

Focus: familiarity with textbooks and authentic French documents, while improving students’ everyday French.

Organization:

  • 14 hours of courses per semester: seven two-hour sessions, based on the school calendar;
  • Location and times to be determined on the basis of need (transportation fees for teachers may apply);
  • Rate: $198 per session and per parent, minimum of five participants of equivalent level per group.

Teachers: improve your level of French through ongoing education

Objectives: to improve your level of proficiency in French in the classroom. Introduction to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL).

Focus: to know how to give advice to students; to correct and encourage students in French; and to improve general proficiency in professional French in order to feel more at ease in the classroom. Introduction to the CEFRL and strategies for its implementation in teaching methods and evaluation.

Organization:

  • Program to be developed based on your professional needs;
  • Location and times to be determined on the basis of need (transportation fees for teachers may apply);
  • (Base) rate: $30 CAD per hour per person (minimum four participants of equivalent levels per group).

Most Alliance française locations in Canada offer French classes for students in immersion programs throughout the year, in addition to summer camps.
