The Paris Fellowship is a new initiative of the Cultural Service of the French Embassy in Canada, to help Canadian publishers translate French authors published in France. The grant is in two parts:
-The following year (in 2019 & 2021), the Cultural Service of the French Embassy in Canada offers three Canadian publishers the opportunity to get to know the French publishing world better, from its wide range of different publishers to its diverse set of books and authors. The fellowship consists of a three-day business trip to Paris with a full program composed of one-and-one meetings with French publishers, rights directors and directors of collections.
-Every other year (in 2020 & 2022), the Cultural Service of the French Embassy in Canada is granting 5 000 CAD to two Canadian publishers about to translate a text from a French author published in France.
The 2019 Paris Fellowship
The programme for each Canadian publisher will be drafted through close collaboration between the Cultural Service of the French Embassy, the Canadian fellow and French publishers. The three-day fellowship will therefore be tailor-made and adapted to each Canadian publisher and its French counterparts. The three Canadian fellows will be selected by a jury composed of professionals from the French and Canadian book industries.
Please note that the Cultural Service of the French Embassy in Canada will cover the cost of the whole fellowship: an economy class return flight ticket from Canada to Paris and per diem.
The Fellowship programme will take place at the beginning of June 2019.
How to Apply
The program is open to every book publisher, working for and affiliated to an English-speaking Canadian publishing house.
