The Montréal based Comic Books publisher Drawn & Quarterly was awarded a publishing grant by the Institut français for their forthcoming publication of L’étrange.
L’étrange, by the author Jérôme Ruillier, is an engaged graphic novel about the dramatic journey of a clandestine, who left his native country to set out and go to a more prosperous country. Through a story with animals as main characters, in a country whose name is never told, L’étrange spins a universal tale that echoes our current migration issues.
About the Institut Français Grant Program
For the past 26 years, the Publication Support Programmes of the Institut français have helped to promote the translation and publication of over 20,000 works by French and francophone authors in 75 different countries. These programmes support publishers throughout the world who wish to open up their catalogues to works by francophone authors, through translation.
The Rights Purchase Grant Program is a bi-annul program set up to help publishers offsetting the cost of acquiring the rights from books translated from French. Grant beneficiaries are selected by the Institut français in Paris.
