Alliance Française Halifax, in partnership with Propeller Brewing Company, is hosting a unique Apéro des idées on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at 6:30 pm. Apéro des idées is an opportunity to learn, exchange and debate on current topics.
For this edition, Olivier van Beemen, journalist and author of Heineken in Africa: A Multinational Unleashed, stops in Halifax during his press tour in North America. This meet-and-greet will be in English with a visual presentation in French. After the talk, the audience will have the opportunity to exchange in French or English.
Olivier van Beemen is a Dutch investigative journalist specializing in Africa. He was a press correspondent in France for 10 years and still regularly works for the French newspaper Le Monde. After five years of investigation in Africa, Olivier van Beemen is now presenting his book about the commercial strategy of Heineken in Africa. He criticizes some of the controversial practices developed by the second largest brewing company in the world, as well as its discourse directed to African populations arguing that beer is “good for Africa”. In short, beer is not just about malt and bubbles.
