Alliance Française Halifax (AFH) organizes its monthly French Film Rendez-Vous on July 23, 2019 from 6 pm to 10 pm at the auditorium of the Museum of Natural History. The second movie of this month’s selection is included into the Halifax Pride program.
Two movies will be presented in French with English subtitles.
At 6 pm, The Wild Life (2016) directed by Vincent Kesteloot and Ben Stassen (Belgium-France). From the over-exuberant parrot Mak to the commonsensical kingfisher Kiki and the always-cool chameleon Carmello, things are larger-than-life on a tropical isle that is pure wild animal paradise. Then Robinson Crusoe arrives in the midst of a furious storm, and their lives are forever changed by this bewildering new “creature.”
It is not like any other Robinson Crusoe’s story as it is told from the point of view of animals.
At 8 pm, to mark Halifax Pride, the second movie to be screened is Sorry Angel (2018) directed by Christophe Honoré (France). Jacques (Pierre Deladonchamps) is a semi-renowned writer and single father in his thirties trying to maintain his sense of romance and humor in spite of the turmoil in his life and the world in Paris in 1993. While on a work trip to Brittany, he meets Arthur (Vincent Lacoste), an aspiring filmmaker in his early twenties, who is experiencing a sexual awakening and eager to get out of his parochial life. Arthur becomes instantly smitten with the older man.
From writer-director Christophe Honoré (Dans Paris) comes a reflection on love and loss, and youth and aging. Sorry Angel has been nominated for several categories for the Cannes Festival.
The prices are $8 per film ($5 for members and students of Alliance Française).
