Event Details
As part of the exhibition Facing Claude Cahun and Marcel Moore, the documentary Claude Cahun: Elle et Suzanne, directed by Fabrice Maze in 2015, will be screened at the Ottawa Art Gallery at 7:00 pm and 9:15 pm on November 7th.
Synopsis :
Claude Cahun is an independent woman, emancipated, rentier, homosexual, non-activist, “errant writer”, versatile artist, revolutionary, antifascist, individualist, atypical surrealist, in a nutshell unclassifiable. Out of all conformity for the sake of perpetual differentiation and “mania for the exceptional”, she offers an innovative and disconcerting photographic work where she stages herself with the help of her partner, Suzanne Malherbe, with whom she has shared her whole life. A mythical couple, often hidden, despite their many collective works. “All creation is self-creation,” writes Claude Cahun, a rebel against any identification and for whom “labels are despicable. “To travel only to the bow of oneself” is his desire.
