Event Details

Social networks, neural networks, the Internet,  railway networks, communication networks… We live in a world organized in networks, and some of them are gigantic. Mathematicians have tried to understand these structures and their geometry…  which is quite far from the Pythagorean theorem !

Etienne Ghys is a French mathematician, who works for the CNRS (National Centre for Scientific Research) in the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Lyon. He is involved into the dissemination of mathematics, through mathematical films and books. He will be in Vancouver on May 2 and 3.

A cocktail-reception will be given at the end of the talk.

Free event, in French. Please register on Eventbrite.

Etienne Ghys will also give a talk about the geometry of snowflakes at Science World (in English) on Friday May 3.
