Event Details

For the first time in Toronto, French pianist Lucas Debargues will give an exceptional solo recital. Do not miss this amazing evening on Thursday, January 16th at the Royal Conservatory, presented by Show One. He will present Scarlatti’s Sonatas and masterpieces by Ravel, Medtner and Liszt in Toronto and Montreal

French pianist Lucas Debargue captured the world’s attention in 2015, when he was awarded fourth place as well as the coveted Moscow Music Critics’ Prize at the Tchaikovsky Competition.
“There hasn’t been a foreign pianist who has caused such a stir since Glenn Gould’s arrival in Moscow in the midst of the Cold War, or Van Cliburn’s victory at the Tchaikovsky Competition.” (Huffington Post)

Lucas Debargue appeared at Koerner Hall in a dual piano concert with a fellow Tchaikovsky Competition winner, as well as in a high profile chamber ensemble with celebrated violinist Janine Jansen. “Like a young Rimbaud, his touch is poetic and full of dazzling musical imagery — slightly dangerous even.” (Michael Vincent, Toronto Star and Musical Toronto)
Now, the Toronto audience will experience the full scope of Debargue’s exceptional artistry in his first Koerner Hall solo recital.

Since his last Toronto visit, Debargue’s career has been rapidly developing. He appears in the world`s most prestigious recital halls and with distinguished conductors. He is also about to release his fifth recording on Sony Classical – 52 Scarlatti sonatas. He makes his Koerner Hall solo debut in a program that reveals his fierce integrity and dazzling communicative power in 13 sonatas from this new album.
