The Residence of the Embassy of France is opening its doors to the public as part of the Doors Open Ottawa event taking place on Saturday, June 2nd, 2018 from 8:30AM to 5:30PM.

This will be a rare opportunity for the public to visit the Embassy of France, which is both an architectural masterpiece and a symbol of the privileged relationship between France and Canada.

The most remarkable highlights include a reproduction of the Vimy monument, sculpted by Louis Leygue. This monument pays tribute to the 60,000 Canadians who died in France during the First World War.

Visitors will also be able to experience the temporary exhibition Galerie F, set up in the Embassy’s Grand Hall, which showcases the excellence of French savoir-faire by putting the spotlight on a number of regional products.

The Embassy of France, located at 42 Sussex Drive, Ottawa, opened on January 4th, 1939, after three years of construction.

The first stone of this art deco-style building was laid by Prime Minister Mackenzie King on July 14th, 1936.
