Teachers of French as a second language in primary or secondary schools                   

French government grants allow non-French teachers to take part in a short training course in France over the summer.

In 2025, the Cultural and Scientific Services of the French Embassy in Canada are offering a limited number of grants to take part in a 15-day training course in CAVILAM-Alliance Française de Vichy (France). This training course is aimed at teachers who would like to improve their knowledge of the French language to provide optimal conditions for their teaching assignments.

Those who are selected will be able to choose between three sessions (30/6 -11/07; 07/07-18/07; 21/07-01/08). These dates do not include travelling time.

Who is eligible?

Teachers of French as a second language from public primary and secondary schools in Canada (apart from Québec).

All of the following conditions must be met in order to apply for a French government grant:

  • to have been a teacher of French as a second language in a primary or secondary school for at least 3 years,
  • to have at least a B1 level of proficiency in French,
  • to have a graduate diploma (Bachelor minimum),
  • to possess a passport valid until 2026 (and valid for 6 months after the return date),
  • to be a Canadian citizen or a Canadian permanent resident.

 

Attention, you are not eligible for these grants if you are a French national (or have dual nationality).

 

What is included in the grant?

  • The cost of the training
  • Half-board lodging
  • A living allowance for lunch (amount to be determined)
  • International flights (return Canada/France)

Send your application in one single PDF file before 15th April 2025 23.59 (EST) to [email protected]  with:

  • the application form filled out with a motivation letter (1 page max)
  • a CV (1 page max)
  • a reference letter from your director confirming your level of French, the levels you are currently teaching and the length of time in the profession
  • a copy of your passport (if you don’t have Canadian nationality, you could also require a visa. Please check on the France visas site)
