Arts & Sciences “Quantum Studio” Residency in Paris
From October 1, 2025 to October 31, 2025
The 2025 call for applications is open until May 14!
1- About the Arts & Sciences Residency
1.1 – Introduction
The French Institute of Canada, in partnership with the Sorbonne Quantum Information Center (Sorbonne University), CENTQUATRE-PARIS (Paris), and the Ville de Paris International Residency Program at the Récollets, is launching the French component of the “Quantum Studio” arts-sciences residency. This artist residency will take place from October 1, 2025, to October 31, 2025, in Paris, France. It is open to a Canadian artist residing in British Columbia, Yukon, Alberta, Saskatchewan, or the Northwest Territories, exploring the intersections between arts and sciences.
Open to all artistic practices, the residency seeks to foster exchanges between arts and quantum sciences (quantum physics, quantum computing, physics of the infinitely small, materials science, fundamental physics). The Sorbonne Quantum Information Center (Sorbonne University) and CENTQUATRE-PARIS will offer the selected artist a space for reflection in which artists and researchers can gather, exchange ideas on their practices, learn from each other, and jointly develop a creative project at the intersection of the arts and sciences. Prior to the residency in Paris, several online meetings will be organized to establish and maintain initial contact between the winning artist in Canada and the host team (institutions and scientists) in Paris.

7- Partners
The French Embassy in Canada and the French Institute of Canada
The first French diplomatic delegation to Canada was received in 1928, and the embassy building in Ottawa was inaugurated in 1939. Since then, the Cooperation and Cultural Action Service (CCAS) of the French Embassy has continually worked to promote exchanges between the two countries, in fields as diverse as cultural and creative industries (immersive realities, video games, books, etc. – which have become a major focus of cooperation), visual arts and performing arts, artist residencies, academic mobility, and scientific cooperation (particularly in the areas defined as priorities by France and Canada: emerging technologies – quantum science and artificial intelligence –, ocean and polar sciences, energy, and health), or educational cooperation.
This residency program is supported by the branch of the French Institute of Canada based at the Consulate General of France in Vancouver, which is responsible for the entire consular area, including British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Yukon, and the Northwest Territories.
“Quantum Studio” is part of a broader framework of residency programs initiated by the Embassy in Western Canada, entitled “West-West Residencies”: in 2025, it will also offer creative residencies in immersive realities and musical creation related to artificial intelligence.

The QICS also aims to increase teaching efforts in this field, raise awareness among its partners, and collaborate with industry within innovation ecosystems. The center draws on a unique body of knowledge and expertise, ranging from fundamental computer science to quantum physics, including experimental demonstrations of the quantum advantage and the social, economic, and philosophical sciences of digital technologies.
The center’s objectives are:
- To promote research excellence from foundations to applications;
- To develop a coherent teaching program tailored to the needs of the industrial and academic ecosystem, from undergraduate to doctoral studies and continuing education;
- To raise public awareness of the challenges of quantum information; • Open the quantum community to other scientific fields and industry.
