The French Embassy in Canada is launching a call for applications to select English-speaking Canadian publishers who wish to be a part of the professional delegation at the Salon du livre et de la presse jeunesse in Seine-Saint-Denis. The aim of this initiative is to strengthen ties between French and Canadian publishers. The delegation will be in Montreuil for 3 days, from November 30th to December 2nd.

The delegation is supported by the French Embassy in Canada and publishers who are eligible for Livres Canada Books’ 2024-2025 Foreign Rights Marketing Assistance Program (FRMAP) can include their presence at the Salon du livre et de la presse jeunesse de Seine-Saint-Denis as one of their chosen international trade events.

Context and goals:

Throughout the year, the French Embassy in Canada supports Canadian publishers through:

– The support for their participation at the Paris Book Market,

– The support and communication regarding the funds of the Institut Français and the Centre
National du Livre,

– The attribution of two translation grants from French to English,

– The financial and logistical support for French authors tours, translated into English.

The establishment of this delegation is part of the ongoing development of these operations, and the
desire to strengthen professional links between publishers in France and Canada in the field of
children’s literature.

The aim of this delegation is to:

Strengthen knowledge of the French publishing ecosystem for children’s books, and of key
contacts,

Deepen ties between French and Canadian publishers,

Facilitate publishing collaboration opportunities between France and Canada.

Program focus:

Every year, the Salon du livre et de la presse jeunesse brings together over 400 publishers and nearly 2,000 authors, including 250 in the program. As the biggest public event for publishing, press and children’s literature in France, the Salon has acquired international renown over the years.

By immersing themselves in the 40th edition of the Salon du livre et de la presse jeunesse, participants will have the opportunity to meet key figures from the French publishing ecosystem, and to exchange with other foreign delegations. The program will also include “business to business” exchanges with French publishers, and time for discussions with institutions from the literary world within the Salon and in the Paris region.

Selection process:

Candidates must submit their application before October 28 at 6pm (EST) via the following form.

Eligible participants:

– Canadian English-language publishers and foreign rights representatives with a children’s
catalog.

– Level of French: good level of French recommended but not mandatory.

The official announcement of the call results will take place on October 31. If your application is
accepted, you agree to take part in all the proposed activities.

How costs are covered:

Publishers who are eligible for Livres Canada Books’ 2024-2025 FRMAP funding can claim their
participation at this event as one of their chosen international trade events (50% of a standard
economy fare and a per diem of $225 CAD). The French Embassy in Canada will also cover
