MONDAY May 10 / 5 PM (EST)   Body Image in Comics

It’s not easy to feel comfortable in one’s own body, but redrawing the body intocomics is another challenge entirely. How do you draw a body you’re notespecially comfortable in, or others don’t understand? Marie-Noëlle Hébert (My Body in Pieces) considers how to navigate a body that doesn’t fit society’sstandards and the psychic pain of living in such a body. Kimiko Tobimatsuand Keet Geniza (Kimiko Does Cancer) explore how queer and mixed-racedindividuals negotiate changing bodies through illness and what it means toplay with gender-queerness when facing breast cancer. Héloïse Chochois (The Body Factory) looks at the sudden changes traumatic accidents can have onthe body and the psyche, and how we come to terms with these suddenchanges through fantasy and the imagination.
