French distance learning programs: the Centre National d’Etudes à Distance (CNED)
You live in Canada and you wish to enroll your child or children in a French distance learning program, whether a full curriculum or just certain subjects.
The Centre National d’Etudes à Distance (CNED)—which has almost 28,300 registered learners, including more than 14,700 schoolchildren—is the leading lifelong learning institution in Europe and in the Francophone world. It meets the needs of all learners, whether they live in France or elsewhere, regardless of their nationality.
The CNED offers three options:
Full-year programs
Your child is not enrolled at any school in Canada.
The full-year program covers the entire curriculum of a French school year and includes:
- All course materials and audio documents for all subjects in the chosen class;
- All of the homework to be submitted;
- Access to online resources (space for children, space for parents); and
- Opportunities to reach a schoolteacher by telephone or by email.
Subject-specific learning
Your child is enrolled in a French curriculum program in Canada (AEFE).
The subject-specific learning program makes it possible for students enrolled at partner schools to pursue one or more subjects that are not offered or compatible with their school schedules. This program covers an entire subject for the course of the school year (ex: grade 8 Spanish).
Your child is enrolled at a local institution (non-AEFE program school).
The subject-specific learning program makes it possible for learners to explore subjects and explore at their own pace: registration takes place on an à la carte basis (content from full-year courses with the same pedagogical supervision).
International supplementary education
Your child is enrolled at a local institution (non-AEFE program school).
Your child can enroll in several fundamental French education programs with the CNED in order to facilitate possible studies in the French education system in the future. This program is based on three fundamental disciplines and offered to students from kindergarten to the final years of high school.
