Awaited by many professionals of the sector, the text opens new opportunities of collaboration between the to countries in the cinematographic and audiovisual fields.
What changes with the new audiovisual coproduction Agreement between France and Canada?
The Agreement on the Co-production of Audiovisual Works merges and replaces two previous agreements signed in 1983. Its novelty revolves around two elements:
- Cinematographic and audiovisual production are addressed jointly, for the first time;
- The works created for on-demand services (digital platforms) can now be considered official coproductions.
This agreement adapts to the evolution of the international audiovisual sector and extends the possibilities of coproduction. Its allows a greater flexibility of financial and technical mechanisms to officialise a coproduction. Canada is an essential partner for France in the audiovisual sector, with more than a hundred coproductions since 2015. The new agreement aims at vitalizing this collaboration.

The document is introduced on May 19th at the prestigious festival de Cannes, during a round table discussion animated by the Centre national de l’image animée (CNC) and Téléfilm Canada.
