Alliance Française Halifax is organizing its monthly French-language movie night, Les French Film Rendez-Vous, on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 from 6 to 10 pm at the Museum of Natural History. Two movies will be screened in French with English subtitles. They are both about a quest, whether it is for a successor with Asterix: The Secret of the Magic Potion, or for one’s own identity with Me, Myself and Mum.

 

The youth and family film, Asterix: The Secret of the Magic Potion (2019) by Louis Clichy and Alexandre Astier, will be screened at 6pm.

After a fall during the mistletoe picking, the druid Panoramix gets injured and concludes that it is time for him to find a successor. Accompanied by Asterix and Obelix, Panoramix will travel around Gaul in search of a rnew druid and will have to face the evil druid Sulfurix. This movie is inspired by the characters created by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo, whose adventures have already been adapted 5 times for the cinema.

At 8pm, the second film will be Me, Myself and Mum (2014) by Guillaume Gallienne.

Very close to his mum, young Guillaume thinks he is a girl. Indeed, he is very different from his brothers; Guillaume is effeminate. From boarding school to boarding school, Guillaume believes he is homosexual. At least that’s what everyone thinks of him. He will therefore try to find out if it is actually the case. Guillaume Gallienne embodies his own role but also his mother, and manages to show that the way others perceive him is not necessarily a reflection of his true identity. This film received the César for best French film in 2014.
