Event Details

The Comédie Française is expanding in English-speaking Canada!

This first meeting will be an opportunity to rediscover two Euripides’ classics, Orestes and Electra, and to meet up with the actors of La Comédie Française troupe.

Synopsis of the play:

Ivo van Hove combines the two plays and tells, in its continuity, the story of this brother and sister who unite in the revenge they foment against their mother and her lover. Father of Electra and Orestes, Agamemnon, king of Argos, was murdered by his wife Clytemnestra and his lover Aegisthus. The two children were banished, Orestes sent into exile when Electra was forced to marry a peasant and lived in poverty at the gates of the city. Fifteen years later, Aegisthus, who now reigns in Argos, calls for the murder of Orestes. This is where the story of Electra/Orestes begins when the latter, obeying an oracle of Apollo, decides to return to his lands to find his sister and avenge with her the death of their father.
